COURSE BREAKDOWN:

R Fundamentals

Learning the fundamentals is the name of the game for learning great R sounds!  We start with a word and sentence screener which helps us develop a game plan specific to each child. From there, we move on to functional mouth exercises that help the tongue and lips get into the right strength, tension, and placement for greater ER sounds.   The next step in building the fundamentals of great R sounds is to work on the syllables.  All of the 20+  types of R sounds in English is demonstrated by our character tree named Rooter.

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

  • Spring Training:  Functional Lip and Tongue Exercises to buid strength, tension, and placement re-shaping

Batting Cages - Taking a Swing    At Words

This is where teamwork makes the dream work for R sounds!  Each lesson in this module focuses on one specific prevocalic or vocalic R type of word. Homer, our game coach, leads the way with providing his Homer's Hints for each of these lessons. We go through each different type of R sound step by step baseball by baseball learning how each one is pronounced uniquely and then remove the visual cues to help the  child learn how to pronounce the word as it is spelled in English.

Sliders - R Blends

Once a child has firmly mastered R initial words, then the child is ready to learn how to add consonants before the initial R sound to form R blends in words.  Each individual blend requires a different sound so we work through those step-by-step, and cover all of our bases.  The trick is to not only use an initial R sound, but also to figure out the tricky pronunciations for R Blends such as TR and Dr!

Game Days
